GDF Suez
Ranked 8 in 2008 global Accountability Rating
GDF Suez is actively positioning itself as a major provider of sustainable energy and public service solutions, where it sees the largest growth potential for its business. This manifests itself in a variety of ways:
- The company created a board sub-committee for ethics, the environment and sustainable development, chaired by a non-executive director. Also, implementation of the company’s sustainability strategy is led by a steering committee of senior managers from various business units.
- The company seeks to ground its growth strategy in proactive community engagement. When a new project begins, local teams go out to meet all community partners (local unions, non-governmental organizations, user committees, company representatives and neighbourhood groups) to present company plans and identify and discuss the impact the project will have on local people and economies.
- Almost all of the company’s main environmental and social performance measures are showing considerable performance improvements, including waste, water, health and safety as well as carbon intensity.
