France Telecom is one of the fastest improvers in this year’s rating due to a whole range of improvements across all areas of non-financial management.
France Telecom’s most notable activities include:
- Extensive efforts to develop innovative service offerings, such as:
- Sign language-based customer services
- Installation of solar power units in Senegal to extend mobile network coverage while reducing environmental impact. Project is to be extended to the Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Guinea and Mali by the end of 2009.
- Mobile telecommunication-based environmental monitoring services for local authorities.
- Delivery of low-cost mobile phone-based education programmes for families with children in Jordan.
- Innovative mobile phone-based health monitoring that enables people who require constant medical supervision to move around more freely.
- Development of new communication tools to connect citizens living in remote areas with public service providers.
- Creation of a Group European Works Council to represent employees and facilitate social dialogue. An extension of this council to the global level is currently being negotiated.
- A range of innovative non-financial management tools to monitor and improve supplier sustainability performance and track environmental performance.
- Development of a methodology to evaluate social, economic and environmental impacts of products and services during the design stage.
- Comprehensive disclosure of environmental data for all major operating countries, with specific targets and objectives for the future development of the environmental management system.
